Aside from the Council of senior afareet, the ranking system that the afareet use is informal at best.
In Training
An afareet begins training as soon as their powers start to show, generally around early adolescence (10-ish), to take advantage of the full power potential. The process of training, which involves being the student learning mostly things that do not directly relate to their magic, can take anywhere from six to ten years, depending on how early or late it is begun. However, a student who starts learning at fourteen will learn faster than one who starts at ten, so the time generally evens out in the end.
An afareet in training would learn about: mediation, herblore, survival skills, languages, tracking, diplomacy, history and possibly dancing, sewing, metalsmithing, woodwork or glassblowing.
Afareet in training must wear a gray sash at all times whilst in the fortress.
Apprenticeship
Around the age of 19 or 20, afareet come out of the official period of training and begin to focus on their magic, aided by a mentor. Before Apprenticeship, afareet are encouraged not to use their magic unless it's absolutely necessary, as a way of disciplining them and teaching them to keep their magic under control. The afareet will work with their mentor several days a week for long periods of time to improve their control, range and to experiment with their magic. This can last anywhere from three to six years, depending on how well the student was prepared or how much magic he or she has.
Apprentices wear a blue sash or armband while in the fortress.
Guildsman or Guildswoman
The Guild of afareet is made up of all the fully trained afareet from the ages of 25 and up wards. If an afareet finishes training before they reach 25, they will be given a provisional membership until they are 25. Afareet in this class are allowed to roam the fortress and grounds at will until they are assigned to be a mentor or a special mission by the Council.
Guildsman wear red sashes and armbands in the fortress.
Council
The Council is made up of an undetermined number of senior afareet (generally over 75) who make most of the choices about the plans of action. To become a council member, you must be nominated by someone already in a seat, and then voted in by a seven eighths majority.
Council members wear black sashes or armbands while in the fortress.
